Senate mourns Ewherido

ABUJA- THE Senate has described the death of Senator Pius Ewherido, DPP, Delta Central as devastating and shocking.

In a  statement by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Information, Media and Publicity,  Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe noted that  Ewherido  took ill at the weekend and was not able to make it, saying the Senate is heart broken and the incident,  unfortunate.

Abaribe  said, “Senator Ewherido was one of the most articulate, erudite, urbane and easy-going senators who brought his wealth of experience as a Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly to bear on the floor.”He was always concerned about his constituents and Nigeria as a whole”.

Abaribe said the Senate awaits further information but will sorely miss the Senator.

Ewherido died on Sunday evening at the National Hospital, Abuja  where he was rushed to after an heart attack on Thursday.

‘Consumer goods companies’shares over priced, to fall further’

Despite the fall in the share prices of listed companies in the last two weeks, shares of many of the consumer goods companies remain slightly over-priced and will likely experience more corrections, said the Managing Director, Financial Derivatives Company, Mr. Bismark Rewane.

Rewane said that unlike the consumer goods sector, banking stocks are under-valued and have the potential to withstand the present downturn in the market.

Making the postulation in his bi-monthly review of the economy for June, 2013, ‘Bi-Monthly Economic and Business Update, he said, “At current level, the market remains slightly overpriced with a trailing price to earnings (P/E) of 13.9x and many of the consumer goods stocks still trading at a P/E of greater than 30x. We expect the correction to continue in this sector, although we do not expect an Armageddon as most stocks in the sector are defensive and are likely to weather the storm.”

He, however, stated that the market looks cheap on the banking sector perspective, saying, “All listed banks except Stanbic IBTC Holdco Plc, Union Bank Plc and Wema Bank Plc, are trading in single digit P/Es, with the most attractive being UBA and Access Bank with a P/E of 4.9x and 5.8x respectively.

“Given that stocks in the banking sector are held by portfolio investors with a long-term outlook and the strong earning power of the sector, we expect banking stocks to remain resilient even in turbulent times. Data also shows that there has been more buying than selling of tier one banks shares in the last three months, giving the sector a stamp of approval by investors.”

He added, “The major risk to the market, as we stated in our LBS publication in May, remains the price of crude oil and the exchange rate direction. Despite our bullish stance on the long-term growth of the index, we believe a structural depreciation of the naira could result in a major sell-off in the market. For now, we consider this unlikely, but the risk still exists.”

He further noted that the reversal witnessed so far has been sharper than the growth where the All Share Index reached 40,000 basis points in May.

His word, “The Nigerian Stock Exchange’s (NSE) All Shares Index (ASI) is experiencing a torrid June. After a strong performance in May and an impressive start to the month of June, crossing the 40,000 points along the way, the market reversal was sharper than the rise.

“The ASI suffered its first consecutive five-day fall, its longest losing streak in a year, with a compounded loss of 7.5 percent (2,987.94 points) in the five-day period between the 12th June and 18th of June. The loss was due to investors taking profit on stocks that had depreciated in the recent bull-run.

The month-to-date returns of -2.04 percent is the lowest monthly return figure since June 2012. Given the currency depreciation over the period, the loss in dollar terms amounted to 3.2 percent. The disruption that has gripped the bond market for over a month has now descended on the equity market as well.

Bond yields have been rising as prices decline as a result of reduced demand for FGN bonds by foreign portfolio investors. The situation has not been helped by the depreciation of the naira, which has exposed portfolio investors to forex losses.”

We want to eradicate culture of impunity in aviation – NCAA -

The acting Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, Dr Joyce Nkemakolam, says, the Authority will no longer tolerate the flouting of aviation laws by some airline owners and operators. And that the grounding of aircraft and suspension of operating licence of airlines can be avoided if aviation rules are obeyed.

Speaking to reporters in his office at the Aviation House in Ikeja, Dr Nkemakolam said that grounding of airline can be avoided if operators adhered strictly to the regulatory requirements and rules guiding the airline operations without violations.

“If there is no violation or flouting of these regulations of course, there will be no sanction. We want to eradicate the culture of impunity which some operators have penchant of taking liberty of. This has got to stop” He said the agency was planning to invite all operators and re sensitize them to adhere to regulations guiding their operations adding that once they follow all the regulatory requirements that grounding can be avoided.

On private jets owners, Dr Nkemakolam explained that there were limitations and restrictions to the use of private jets for leisure adding that anybody flying with friends should be captured in their insurance policy. “If you have a Third party insurance policy you can fly with them. However, if you don’t, you are working outside the realm of your license. You must make sure that those you intend to carry are covered”

On compliance by airlines to the Aviation Revenue Automation Programme, the acting DG said there was a high level of compliance adding that a meeting has been held between the NCAA and International Air Transport Association IATA on the process to collect the cargo taxes under the automation regime adding that the agency was tightening up loose ends.

On airline recertification, he said NCAA will soon embark on recertification of all AOCs issued pre 2009 adding that those that were issued post 2009 don need to recertification.

2 Pakistani girls shot dead for making a video of themselves dancing in the rain

Two teenage sisters, 16 year old Noor Basra and 15 year old Noor Sheza (both pictured above) were shot dead at their home in the town of Chilas, in Pakistan after a video showing the two girls laughing and dancing in the rain was circulated via mobile phones.

Apparently dancing with your sibling in the rain and filming it is a crime punishable by death in the Northern region of Gilgit. The video caused an outrage in the town and a few days later, five men invaded the girls home and shot them dead - for - wait for it - 'tarnishing their family's name'. Their mother was also shot dead.

The girls' step-brother, a man named Khutore, is being accused of arranging their murder because he allegedly wanted to 'restore the family's honour'. The sisters' other brother filed a case against him and the four other alleged accomplices who are now on the run. The police are investigating the case.

Insurers underwrite N240bn business in 2012

Chairman of Nigerian Insurers Association, NIA, Mr. Remi Olowude, has said that the volume of business underwritten by the insurance industry in 2012 was estimated at N240 billion.

Olowude gave the figure at the Association’s 2012 Annual General Meeting in Lagos last week.

Olowude, who was represented by Mr. Godwin Wiggle, the NIA Vice Chairman said the figure represents 10.24 per cent increase against N217.7 billion recorded by the industry in 2011.

He, however, said that the industry had continued to grapple with inadequate infrastructure and unstable weather which exposed insured assets to natural disasters such as floods.

He said “The current performance of the industry has not been sufficient for it to reach the critical mass necessary to make the desired impact on the economy. The industry’s contribution to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP, remains at less than one per cent in 2012.”

Olowude said that the Association was reviving the Nigerian Oil and Energy Insurance Pool to improve the industry’s oil and energy underwriting capacity.

He noted that the Association organised 14 training programmes for its members in 2012 which included collaboration with the GIZ of Germany to build capacity on microinsurance.

The Chairman said that the Association had completed and started deploying the first phase of the Nigerian Insurance Industry Database (NIID) Motor Insurance Module. Olowude said that delay in claims payment had reduced as its members continued to live up to their obligation of prompt claims payment to policy holders.

Director-General of the NIA, Mr. Olorundare Thomas, said that the Association was working with the National Insurance Commission on the money laundering and terrorist financing programme.

He said that the NIA had advised its members to take additional steps to preserve the integrity of the industry.

15 lecturers demoted for having faked Ph.D degrees certificate in Ebonyi

ABAKALIKI — NO fewer than 15 lecturers of Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo were weekend, demoted over alleged involvement in certificate forgery and for claiming to have acquired Ph.D degrees from reputable institutions outside the country.

Management of the college, on receipt of the report and recommendations of the committee set up to look into the alleged claims by the lecturers, said the exercise was not meant to witch-hunt anybody in particular but to ensure sanity and discipline within the education sector in the state.

At a press briefing in Abakaliki, Special Adviser to Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State on Higher Education, Professor Mike Ituma, revealed that the discovery came as a shock, stressing that the action of the affected lecturers was a reflection of the level of decay ravaging the sector.

According to him, the action of the management of the college is a step in the right direction and government is completely in support of the action against the lecturers.

In a statement, Public Relations Officer of the college, Mr. Nkwuda Bethrand Otukobelu, noted that the 15 affected lecturers would not be allowed to run any promotion course packaged by the college till after three years.

He said: “A lot of processes were followed in verification and evaluation of the certificates of the lecturers involved. Six of the affected lecturers who had their Ph.Ds from the institutions should stop parading themselves as Ph.D holders and stop adding the title ‘Dr.’ to their names.

“That as regards to their present positions, nine of them have been demoted to Lecturer III; two to Assistant Lecturers and the remaining two to non-academic staff for not possessing relevant qualifications to be in the academic cadre.”

“That six of them who enjoyed financial benefits with the controversial certificates are to refund such benefit which accrued to them in excess of their present new position.”

“Findings by the committee and letters from the National Universities Commission, NUC, and the Federal Ministry of Education show that the institutions were neither approved nor recognized by the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

Latest Photographer drags TuFace, wife to court over wedding pictures

By Abdulwahab Abdulah Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has fixed October 16, 2013 for the commencement of trial in a N120 million copyright suit filed against popular music star, Innocent Idibia, a.k.a. TuFace, his wife, Annie Idibia and their manager, Anthonio Anifite over photographs allegedly taken at the recent traditional wedding of the musician and his wife in Akwa Ibom State. Abuja based photographer, Emmanuel Okolo, who is the plaintiff in the suit alongside his studio, Papilonmexy filed suit against the defendants. *Tuface and Annie Idibia during their traditional marriage *Tuface and Annie Idibia during their traditional marriage He is asking for six reliefs, two of which include N100 million in general damages and N20million in exemplary damages. At the resumed hearing of the case yesterday, neither TuFace nor his wife was represented in court. Anifite who is the second defendant was however represented by his counsel, J.O Uttute. Meanwhile, a mild drama ensued when the judge openly admonished Uttute after the latter claimed that he had filed his defence when he had not done so. The judge warned him not to come to this court again if he was not prepared for the case. “You told me that you have filed your response, but looking through here, there is nothing to that effect. And you are even smiling. Do you think you are here to joke? Never come to this court again if you are not prepared. You don’t even know when the case was filed and you are not prepared for it,” said the judge. Also, the plaintiff’s counsel, Habeeb Oredola expressed worry over the defendants’ inability to appear before the court or be represented by a counsel after they were served with the writs of summon. In the writ of summon, Okolo and his studio claimed they were contracted by TuFace’s wife through a third party, identified as Ms Chineze Anyaene to take photo shots at the traditional wedding held in Eket, Akwa Ibom state in March, 2013. The plaintiff said, he was reluctant at the beginning since the offer was coming through a third party, but later accepted after he was convinced that the offer was actually with the blessing of the first defendant. Annie Idibia was said to have later contacted the photographer after the wedding and demanded for the printing of 10 of the high resolution pictures taken. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/06/photographer-drags-tuface-wife-to-court-over-wedding-pictures/#sthash.a1vKymEk.dpuf

France is set to begin the first major stage of its military withdrawal from Mali, four months after sending troops to push Islamist rebels out the north

France is set to begin the first major stage of its military withdrawal from Mali, four months after sending troops to push Islamist rebels out the north. A convoy of 80 lorries will leave a French base outside the capital, Bamako, and drive south to Ivory Coast. France began withdrawing some of its 4,000 troops from the country in April. They plan to gradually hand over to the Malian army and a UN peacekeeping force, which will deploy in July ahead of planned nationwide elections. Saturday's withdrawal comes just two days after Islamist rebels targeted an army barracks and French-run uranium mine in neighboring Niger, killing 21 people. French special forces helped Nigerien soldiers end a hostage siege at the barracks on Friday. It is not known if the attacks will affect French troop deployments.

Bola Tinubu: State of emergency – President Jonathan’s ploy to subvert constitutional democracy

It is now abundantly clear that President Jonathan has finally bared his fangs confirming what was widely speculated. By declaring a state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, he has intimidated and emasculated the governors of these States. We are witnessing a dangerous trend in the art of governance and a deliberate ploy to subvert constitutional democracy. The body language of the Jonathan administration leads any keen watcher of events with unmistakable conclusion of the existence of a surreptitious but barely disguised intention to muzzle the elected governments of these states for what is clearly a display of unpardonable mediocrity and diabolic partisanship geared towards 2015. Borno and Yobe states have been literally under armies of occupation with the attendant excruciating hardship experienced daily by the indigenes and residents of these areas. This government now wants to use the excuse of the security challenges faced by the Governors to remove them from the states considered hostile to the 2015 PDP/Jonathan project. Let me be quick to say that this administration will be setting in motion a chain of events the end of which nobody can predict. Experience has shown clearly that actions, such as this one under consideration, often give root to radical ideologies and extremist tendencies, a direct opposite of the intended outcome of unwarranted and unintelligent meddlesomeness. The present scenario playing out in the country reminds one of the classical case of a mediocre craftsman who continually blames the tools of his trade for his serial failure but refuses to look at his pitiable state with a view to adjusting. It has become crystal clear, even to the most incurable optimist, that the country is adrift. That the ship of the Nigerian state is rudderless is clearly evident in the consistent and continual attacks ferociously executed by elements often referred to as the insurgents in some northern states of the federation, particularly Borno and Yobe states respectively. Indeed, no part of the country is immune from the virulent but easy attacks, veritable indices of a failing state. Unfortunately, the tenuous and uncoordinated approach adopted by this government betrays a grossly incompetent disposition which stands at variance with current realities in the country, nay the international community where acts of terrorism are engaged and contained. No Governor of a state in Nigeria is the Chief Security Officer. Putting the blame on the Governors, who have been effectively emasculated, for the abysmal performance of the government at the centre which controls all these security agencies, smacks of ignorance and mischief. Terrorist acts are perpetrated routinely and the government at the centre appears incapable of stemming the tide of the horrendous crimes unleashed on the hapless populace. The considerable ease, with which lives and property are destroyed on a daily basis, should excite deep introspection on the part of a government truly desirous of finding a lasting solution. The Constitution provides that the safety and welfare of citizens shall be the primary purpose of having that structure of any political leadership in the first instance. This Government, through acts of omission and commission, has fallen far short of expectation. It actively encourages schisms and all manner of divisive tendencies for parochial expediency. Ethnicity and religion become handy weapons of domination. Things have never been this bad. The response to the pervasive chaos in the Northern region of the country has been militarisation, mass arrests and extra judicial killings by the Joint Task Force, JTF, a convenient euphemism for an army of occupation seemingly set loose on the people of the localities concerned. The tenor of the State of Emergency declared by the Federal Government yesterday portends danger for the polity. The full militarisation of security operations in these states will compound the already tense situation. Both local and international media are awash with news of reckless attitudes of the invading forces. The fact that security operatives are killed cheaply and reprisals from the state find expressions in organised pogroms in the immediate communities is sure evidence of a government which lacks basic understanding to appreciate the enormity of the current security challenges. If development is about the people, all measures put in place for the sustenance and maintenance of the super-structure of the society must take into cognisance local contents. It is evident from the grim experiences in recent times that this government has failed, or does not know that it is necessary for it to avail itself of the benefits accruable from exchange of ideas and notes on the latest in terms of technology and human resources among nations of the modern world, especially those which have been fighting terrorist organisations over the years, on the most effective mode of combating this menace. Technologically advanced countries of the world will never discard the idea on the need for the establishment of an effective local intelligence outfit. Our suggestions along this path have always been met with suspicion and acerbic criticisms from both the informed and the ignorant alike. A government which stoutly defends its opposition to the decentralisation of the police force from its present over-centralised command structure is already experimenting with all manner of means patently extra-legal. The massacres of local communities attendant upon the attacks on security agents by unknown elements will further alienate the people who should, ordinarily, partner with the government in securing their immediate environments. An army which invades a community maiming, raping and killing defenceless civilians will end up radicalising the youths whose parents and young ones have been wiped out most cowardly and recklessly. This government should concentrate more on encouraging the development of local intelligence which will, inexorably, lead to the practice of true federalism. Adopting the use of excessive force against those perceived as harbouring terrorists does not portray this government as possessing the wherewithal to find abiding solutions to the lingering security challenges. The President’s pronouncement, which seeks to abridge or has the potential of totally scuttling the constitutional functions of Governors and other elected representatives of the people, will be counterproductive in the long run. A State of Emergency already exists in the states where JTF operates. Residents of these communities live in constant fear. Their rights are violated with impunity under the guise of searching for terrorists in their respective domains. Hiding under some nebulous claims which border on the intractability of the security challenges posed by Boko Haram or some acclaimed traditionalists who have killed some policemen to render ineffective the constitutional powers vested in elected Governors and other representatives of the people, perceived as not amenable to manipulation for the 2015 project amounts to reducing serious issues bordering on the survival of the country to partisan politics. Let all those who love this country genuinely advise the federal government not to tinker with the mandates of these Governors under any guise. It is a potentially destructive path to take. If security of a society is about the protection of lives and property of the citizenry, the involvement of the people is a sine qua non to effective intelligence gathering. Any measures put in place which alienate the people, in particular their elected representatives, should be considered as fundamentally defective by every right thinking person in the country.

your 1st time on internet

My first time on the internet was almost or a decade now. It was at a cyber cafe, which I went with my brother and a friend who is also a member of this forum. I still remember that we planned going for like four weeks before we eventually went. My elder brother had been visiting cyber cafés with his friends. So, he promised to take us to the nearest cyber café to our place. On the D-day, I, my friend(friendlybee) and brother went and we bought two hours of browsing time. I remember checking Sony website, and also checking some random gadget(my number one interest then) websites, and most importantly I created my first e-mail which I don't use again BTW. However, by the time we were done with the first 1 hour, I already lost the remaining 60mins ticket with me. Sad! Nevertheless, it was an interesting experience.

Malaga's Manuel Pellegrini has denied he has agreed a deal to replace Roberto Mancini as Manchester City manager.

After losing the FA Cup final to Wigan on Saturday, Mancini criticised City's owners for not quashing reports that a deal with Pellegrini, 59, was done. But Chilean Pellegrini told Malaga's website: "I categorically deny that I am the new Manchester City coach. "I have an agreement with Malaga not to talk to anyone and nothing has been agreed with any other outfit." He added: "Nothing has been signed and no agreement reached. I've been fortunate enough, and very proud, that every year the big clubs are interested in me. "I hope the future of this club will become somewhat clearer in the next few days." Mancini took over from Mark Hughes in December 2009, leading City to the FA Cup in 2011 and the Premier League title a year later. City officials met with with Pellegrini's agent, Jesus Martinez, in April. Martinez also represents Malaga midfielder Isco, a reported target for the Blues. Mancini said he did not know why the meeting had taken place. Pellegrini, who has previously had spells in charge of Real Madrid and Villarreal, took charge of Malaga in November 2010. In his first full season in charge, he guided Malaga to fourth in La Liga and Champions League qualification for the first time. Malaga reached the last eight of the Champions League, before being knocked out by Dortmund. They are currently sixth in La Liga. They will not play in European competition next term after being

Wigan Athletic stuns Manchester City in FA Cup final

SUBSTITUTE Ben Watson scored an injury-time winner to give Wigan Athletic a sensational 1-0 win over Manchester City at Wembley Stadium in the biggest FA Cup final upset in 25 years. With extra time beckoning, Watson met a Shaun Maloney corner with a near-post header to stun 2011 cup winners City and give Wigan the first major trophy in their 81-year history. Victory represented a fairytale moment for the modest northwest club and chairman, Dave Whelan, who punched the air with delight at the final whistle, after a shock that stands comparison with Wimbledon's 1988 success over Liverpool. He had earlier led the team on to the pitch, having broken his leg while playing for Blackburn Rovers in the 1960 FA Cup final in an incident that ended his top-level football career.

It said 105 prisoners were freed in the pre-dawn raid in Bama, Borno state. Bama's police station, military barracks and government buildings were burned to the ground, said the military and witnesses. Correspondents say extremist attacks are common in the region but the scale of bloodshed makes this raid stand out. This strike - coming on the back of other deadly attacks - undermines the suggestion that the military operation against the militants has diminished the threat they pose, says the BBC's Will Ross in Lagos. President Goodluck Jonathan has set up a committee to agree the terms of an amnesty for the rebels but Boko Haram's leader, Abubakar Shekau, has so far rejected the idea. Tuesday's raid in the remote town began when some 200 heavily-armed suspected members of Boko Haram arrived in buses and pick-up trucks at about 05:00 (04:00 GMT), said Musa Sagir, a military spokesman based in Maiduguri, some 70km (44 miles) from Bama. "Some of the gunmen attacked the military barracks but they were repelled. Ten of them were killed and two were arrested," he told AFP news agency. "But the gunmen broke into the prison, freeing 105 inmates, and killed all prison warders they could see except those who hid in a store where cooking utensils were kept," he said. Some of the attackers wore army uniforms for the assault, which continued for almost five hours, he added.

It’s not that we should never invite people to church, but too much of the time, it’s the first thing we do when we encounter someone new.

We Christians have a remarkable talent
for sticking our feet in our mouths. When
searching the words most commonly
associated with “Christian,” the list ain’t
pretty. I think part of this can be
attributed to a handful of phrases that, if
stricken from our vocabulary, might make
us a little more tolerable. Yes, these
things may mean something to you, but
trust me, non-Christians don’t share your
love for these tried-and-true cliches.
So in no particular order, here are ten
phrases Christians should lose with a
quickness:
1. “Everything happens for a
reason.” I’ve heard this said more
times than I care to. I’m not sure
where it came from either, but it’s
definitely not in the Bible. The
closest thing I can come up with is
“To everything, there is a season,”
but that’s not exactly the same.
The fact is that faith, by definition,
is not reasonable. If it could be
empirically verified with facts or by
using the scientific method, it
wouldn’t be faith. It would be a
theory. Also, consider how such a
pithy phrase sounds to someone
who was raped. Do you really mean
to tell them there’s a reason that
happened? Better to be quiet,
listen and if appropriate, mourn
alongside them. But don’t dismiss
grief or tragedy with such a
meaningless phrase.
2. “If you died today, do you know
where you’d spend the rest of
eternity?” No, I don’t, and neither
do you. So stop asking such a
presumptuous question as this that
implies you have some insider
knowledge that the rest of us
don’t. And seriously, if your faith is
entirely founded upon the notion of
eternal fire insurance, you’re not
sharing testimony; you’re peddling
propaganda.
3. “He/she is in a better place.” This
may or may not be true. Again, we
have no real way of knowing. We
may believe it, but to speak with
such authority about something we
don’t actually know is arrogant.
Plus, focusing on the passing of a
loved one minimizes the grief of
the people they left behind.
4. “Can I share a little bit about my
faith with you?” Too often,
Christians presume we have
something everyone else needs,
without even knowing them first.
Ask someone about their story, but
maybe not the second you meet
them. Christian evangelism often is
the equivalent of a randy young
teenager trying to get in good with
his new girlfriend. When your
personal agenda is more important
than the humanity of the person
you’re talking to, most people can
sense the opportunism from a mile
a way.
5. “You should come to church with
me on Sunday.” It’s not that we
should never invite people to
church, but too much of the time,
it’s the first thing we do when we
encounter someone new. My wife,
Amy, and I started a new church
eight years ago, founded on the
principle of “earning the right to
invite.” Invest in people first.
Listen to their stories. Learn their
passions, their longings, and share
the same about yourself. Then,
after you’ve actually invested in
each other, try suggesting
something not related to church to
help you connect on a spiritual
level. If the person really gets to
know you and wants to know more
about why you live your life the
way you do, they’ll make a point to
find out. Then again, if you come
off as just another opinionated,
opportunistic Christian, why should
they honor your predatory approach
with a visit to the church that
taught you how to act that way in
the first place?
6. “Have you asked Jesus into your
heart?” As many times as I’ve
heard this, I still don’t really know
what it means. why my heart? Why
not my liver or kidneys? This also
makes Christianity sound like a
purely emotional experience,
rather than a lifelong practice that
can never entirely be realized. But
yeah, asking someone if they’re
engaged in a lifelong discipline to
orient their lives toward Christlike
compassion, love and mercy
doesn’t exactly have the same ring
to it.
7. “Do you accept Jesus as your
personal lord and savior?” Again,
this is not in the Bible. Anywhere.
And for me, it goes against the
whole Christlike notion of the
suffering servant. People tried to
elevate Jesus to the status of Lord,
but he rejected it. So why do we
keep trying? Plus, the whole idea of
a lord is so antiquated, it has no
real relevance to our lives today.
Be more mindful of your words, and
really mean what you say.
8. “This could be the end of days.”
This is one of my favorites. We
Christians love to look for signs of
the end of the world; we practically
have an apocalyptic fetish. It’s like
we can’t wait until everything
comes to a smoldering halt so we
can stand tall with that “I told you
so” look on our faces, while the
nonbelievers beg for mercy. Yeah,
that sounds like an awesome
religion you’ve got going there.
Sign me up!
9. “Jesus died for your sins.” I
know, this is an all-time Christian
favorite. But even if you buy into
the concept of substitutionary
atonement (the idea that God set
Jesus up as a sacrifice to make good
for all the bad stuff we’ve done),
this is a abysmal way to introduce
your faith to someone. I didn’t ask
Jesus to die for me, and if I’m not a
Christian, I really have no concept
of how that could possibly be a
good thing. he whole idea of being
washed clean by an innocent man’s
blood is enough to give any person
nightmares, let alone lead them
into a deeper conversation about
what Christianity is about.
10. “Will all our visitors please
stand?” If someone finally is brave
enough to walk through the doors
of your church, the last thing they
want is to be singled out. They
probably don’t know the songs
you’re singing or the prayers or
responsive readings you’re reading.
Depending on the translation of the
Bible you use, the scripture may
not make much sense, and they
probably have no idea where the
bathroom is. So why add to the
discomfort by making them stand
so everyone can stare at them?
Also, calling someone a visitor
already implies they are simply
passing through, that they’re not a
part of things. Instead of “visitor”
or “guest,” try something less
loaded like “newcomer.” Better
yet, walk up to them, introduce
yourself and learn their name.

Ex-Super Eagles star Chidi Odiah denies being a taxi driver in the US

Former Super Eagles defender, Chidi
Odiah, 30, has released a statement
denying recent reports that he now drives
taxis in the US to survive after being let
go by his Russian club, Cska Moscow. See
his statement below...
My attention has being drawn to the
slandering news going round the online
media that I was spotted driving a Taxi

America.
I am taking this rebuttal path due to the
hurt that story has caused my friends and
family members. With due respect to taxi

through that means, I state, emphatically,
that I am not a taxi driver neither am I in
the United States of America . I am a

Stop using Boko Haram to blackmail Jonathan – Activist

Abuja - Mr James Erebuoye, a
Europe-based Human Rights and
Anti-Corruption Activist, on Sunday
advised Northern Elders to stop
using Boko Haram to blackmail
President Good luck Jonathan.
Erebuoye, who gave the advice in an
interview in Abuja, however,
stressed the need to bring the
insurgency in the north to an end.
He blamed the insurgency on the
inability of the Elder Statesmen who
had led the country in the past to
economically empower the youth.
The activist said the situation had
made many of the youth to become
instruments for perpetrating
violence.
Erebuoye decried the incessant loss
of lives and property in the region,
noting that this had depleted human
resources on a daily basis.
According to him, the only solution
to the insurgency is to engage the
Elders in an intensive dialogue and
compel them “to call their boys to
order.”
He said the idea of giving amnesty
to Book Haram was not the best
solution, and advised government
not to make amnesty as a business
for some politicians.
Erebuoye cautioned the government
against indiscriminate issuing of
amnesty to “killers”, pointing out
that other parts of the country could
eventually use the amnesty as basis
for negotiating insurgencies.
He noted that amnesty could be
misunderstood as basis for
bargaining for both economic and
political recognition.
He urged the government to
explore other areas of resolving
crises in the country other than
amnesty.
“If the amnesty given to Niger Delta
militants is to be used as a
reference point to other
insurgencies, I think it is a total
misconception of the whole issue
and as such, we have gotten it
wrong.
“The people of Niger Delta had a
genuine course which is
internationally recognised, whereas
Boko Haram have not yet come out
to put their demands in such a way
that Nigerians will begin to
appreciate their plight.
“When you talk of giving amnesty,
the first thing that should come to
our mind is who are these Boko
Haram.
“Who are you going to offer
amnesty to.
“These are the kind of questions
that Nigerians have to structure
first.”
The Niger Delta born activist said
that the threats by Boko Haram
would not stop Jonathan from
recontesting in 2015, if he so
wished, adding that the group also
would not stop Nigeria from moving
forward.
Erebuoye, who is also an anti-
corruption crusader, said the
position of the president was not a
right to a particular group of people,
pointing out that Nigerians should
decide who rules the country. (NAN)

Obama tells Planned Parenthood: Abortion foes want return to 1950s

President Obama vowed Friday to join Planned Parenthood in fighting against what he said are efforts by states to turn women's health back to the 1950s, before the Supreme Court legalized abortion nationwide, and singled out the GOP-governed states of North Dakota and Mississippi for criticism.  "When politicians try to turn Planned Parenthood into a punching bag, they're not just talking about you," Obama said, becoming the first sitting president to address the abortion-rights group in person. "They're talking about the millions of women who you serve."  Obama asserted that "an assault on women's rights" is underway across the country, with bills introduced in more than 40 states to limit or ban abortion or restrict access to birth control or other services.  "The fact is, after decades of progress, there's still those who want to turn back the clock to policies more suited to the 1950s than the 21st century," he said. "And they've been involved in an orchestrated and historic effort to roll back basic rights when it comes to women's health."  Last month, North Dakota Republican Gov. Jack Dalrymple signed a law that bans abortions as early as six weeks, or when a fetal heartbeat is detected, making the state the most restrictive in the nation in which to get the procedure.  Obama said "a woman may not even know that she's pregnant at six weeks."  More than a year ago in Mississippi, a "personhood" ballot initiative that would have defined life as beginning at fertilization was defeated by 58 percent of voters in November 2011, the same election in which staunch abortion opponent Phil Bryant, a Republican, was elected governor. Bryant had campaigned for the initiative. Abortion opponents are expected to soon begin a signature-drive to get a similar initiative on the ballot in 2014 or 2015.  "Mississippi's a conservative state, but they wanted to make clear there's nothing conservative about the government injecting itself into decisions best made between a woman and her doctor," Obama said of the voters there.  The president lauded Planned Parenthood's nearly 100 years of providing cancer screenings, contraception and other health services for women and assured those fighting to protect abortion rights that they have an ally in him.  "You've also got a president who's going to be right there with you, fighting every step of the way," Obama said.  In North Dakota, Republican state Rep. Bette Grande, an abortion opponent from Fargo who introduced the bill banning most abortions based on a fetal heartbeat, said she was happy Obama took notice of her state's stance on the issue.  "He is pointing it out because it's true. We have taken a serious look at the life of a child, and the nation is paying attention to that," she said. "We are dealing with life in North Dakota and something as basic as a beating heart."  Laurie Bertram Roberts, Mississippi president of the National Organization for Women, said voters in her state, while conservative, did not misunderstand what "personhood" would have meant for women and families.  "We understand that when you give a fertilized egg the rights of a person, that affects every aspect of pregnancy and reproductive health," she said.  Obama's pledge to stand with Planned Parenthood echoed his rhetoric in last year's presidential campaign after Republican rival Mitt Romney said he'd eliminate the organization's federal funding if elected. That incident, coupled with other issues, led Democrats to begin accusing Republicans of waging a "war on women." Obama went on to win a second term with 55 percent of the female vote, polls showed.  The president originally was scheduled to address Planned Parenthood on Thursday night, but the appearance was delayed to allow him to spend more time in Texas with the loved ones of those who were killed or injured in last week's explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, Texas.  In his short speech on Friday, Obama made no reference to a pair of abortion-related issues that made headlines in recent weeks.  On April 5, a federal judge in New York gave Obama's administration 30 days to begin allowing over-the-counter sales of the morning-after pill, saying the government's decision to limit such sales to those aged 17 and older was "arbitrary, capricious and unreasonable."  Planned Parenthood sided with the judge; the administration has yet to say whether it will file an appeal.  In Pennsylvania, abortion provider Kermit Gosnell is standing trial on charges of killing babies after they were born alive at his West Philadelphia clinic. He also is charged in the 2009 overdose death of a 41-year-old patient. Closing arguments in the case were set for Monday.

Rivers State Governor and Chairman of Nigerian Governors' Forum, Rotimi Amaechi, has ruled out the possibility of having a violent revolution in the country because of the fear factor in many Nigerians.      “Yes, revolution can happen outside Nigeria. But here, I do not think so. Tell me what happened in Sudan, Libya, Zimbabwe and other countries that have not happened here. Our elasticity has no limit. You do not pray for electricity to be regular but you know that some Nigerians pray ‘God, let the light be stable today.’       We pray without working to solve our problems and we think God will do what we are supposed to do for us.”  Governor Amaechi stated this in Ekiti State on Saturday at the second Nigeria Symposium for Young and Emerging Leaders. He said many Nigerians had become used to suffering rather than pushing for a change.  According to him, Nigeria has experienced worse situations than what led
to revolution in some other countries but fear will not allow them take necessary action.  Amaechi said he was sure that those who gathered to protest against the removal of oil subsidy in January 2012 would flee immediately the President drafted soldiers to the Freedom Park in Lagos and other states to quell the uprising, and so it happened.  Stressing that courage is very important to make any meaningful change in Nigeria, Governor Amaechi said anyone who truly wants to see change in Nigeria would never be afraid of guns.  I think he has spoken the truth. Do you agree with him that Nigerians are too scared?

Yesterday, it went viral that a Pastor of CLAM church, Wole Oladiyun warned that Oral S***x was not for Christians. Maybe he read my earlier blog post about Nigerian Men and Oral S***x, or maybe his wife did, and asked him for some, hehehe. The man sparked oh.   In his words, "men and women sucking their private parts are equally damaging their glories. Demonic partners have done a lot of havoc through this act. Honestly, it is simply unhygienic and dirty."  Now, I don't understand the first part of his comment about oral s***x damaging people's glories, or demonic partners, maybe that is what he teaches in his church as doctrine and dogma.  If so, I can't really address it, I am not a pastor obviously, nor his church member. But the second part exposes that his bias and personal opinion is what is majorly driving his condemnation of oral s***x.  Can oral s***x be dirty and unhygienic? Yes. If a man or a woman is not clean and hygienic, or take good care of their genital health, there is a great likelihood they will be smelly, or harbor unwanted fauna and flora in that area. Indeed, cases have been reported of thrush and other mouth and throat infections that come from having oral s***x. The more s**xual partners the person has, and the more lax they are about keeping themselves healthy, the more likely this is that diseases may be passed.  However, the assumption is that married people are faithful to each other, or maybe I'm just hoping. Also, being married, you most times become automatically s***xually active and have to learn to take care of your genital health even more. You wash up regularly, have your check up for STIs, and always make sure you smell clean and fresh before you try to initiate oral s***x. If all these check out, and both man and woman are in the mood for some good loving, then let the fun begin!  So how does this affect Christians? Eya asked on her blog about the biblical basis of pastors who condemn oral s**x or about Christians allowing themselves to enjoy oral s***x, and this is what I have learned on the matter.  There are passages in Songs of Solomon that actually promote how couples can enjoy their s**xuality and different aspects of s***x. I think more Christians need to remove their bias against s***x and read the whole of SOS with new adult eyes. Usually garden and fruits are used to refer to female and male pr**v**te parts.  As an apple tree among the trees of the forest, so is my beloved among the young men. With great delight I sat in his shadow, and his fruit was sweet to my taste. (Song of Solomon 2:3 ESV)  a garden fountain, a well of living water, and flowing streams from Lebanon. Awake, O north wind, and come, O south wind! Blow upon my garden, let its spices flow. Let my beloved come to his garden, and eat its choicest fruits. (Song of Solomon 4:15-16 ESV)  With that said, the bible is just an instruction manual, for the believing Christian, our full direction comes from the Holy Spirit in us. If your conscience makes you uneasy, then it may not be for you. But be sure it is the spirit, sometimes, wrong things we learned in the world can distract us from hearing the spirit clearly. Like someone said, God is not an author of confusion. If your wife or your husband wants oral s***x, and you deny him or her, you are flouting the some bible instructions.  1 Corinthians 7:3-6 : The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. I say this as a CONCESSION, not as a command.  At the end of the day, it is to each their own.  This is According(

Students Design Anti-Molestation/Rape Underwear

After the fatal gang rape of a 23-year-old student on a New Delhi bus last December, 3 Indian engineering students may have found the solution to protecting one's self from rapists. The students designed this camisole – dubbed Society Harnessing Equipment or SHE – which has pressure sensors sewn in around the bust area to detect groping hands and send out shock which can be up to 82 electric shocks.

Explaining their design, co-inventor Manisha Mohan said: “A person trying to molest a girl will get the shock of his life the moment pressure sensors get activated.”
She explained that she and colleagues Niladri Basu and Rimpi Tripathy decided to put the wiring into the clothing after a survey showed most women were first groped on their breasts. The women are protected from the current by polymer insulation in the bra.

The makers are currently fine-tuning the design - hoping the garment will be on sale by the end of this month.

A Heart Touching Story of A Son and His Dad

"While a man was polishing his new car, his 6 year old son picked up a stone and scratched lines on the side of the car. In anger, the man took the child's hand and hit it many times; not realising he was using a wrench. At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures. When the child saw his father.....with painful eyes he asked, 'Dad when will my fingers grow back?'

The man was so hurt and speechless; he went back to his car and kicked it a lot of times. Devastated by his own actions.......sitting in front of that car he looked at the scratches; the child had written 'LOVE YOU DAD'. The next day the man committed suicide. . .Anger and Love have no limits; choose the latter to have a beautiful, lovely life.....
Things are to be used and people are to be loved. But the problem in today's world is that, People are used and things are loved.... In this year, let's be careful to keep this thought in mind: THINGS ARE TO BE USED &
PEOPLE ARE TO BE LOVED. Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits they become character;Watch your character; it becomes your destiny."
